I don’t know about you, but I’m at the stage in life where there just aren’t that many THINGS that I need. In fact, these days I find I get far more satisfaction out of decluttering my home and office than I do out of acquiring new stuff!
So I don’t really want anything for Christmas this year other than the feeling of vibrant health, abundant energy, and the sense of being comfortable in my own skin that I’ve been experiencing at a higher and higher level, the more I implement the information, techniques and mindsets that I teach my private clients and participants in The LEAN Program, in my own daily life.
And fortunately, I don’t have to write a letter to Santa, or even more forlornly, hope that someone else will read my mind and figure out exactly what I want! This is a gift I can give to myself, by committing to do only those things that make me feel wonderful this holiday season.
Here’s how I’ll ensure I get my best-ever Christmas gift (no sleigh required):
- I will only eat when I’m actually hungry, not just because other people around me are eating, or because there are leftovers from Christmas lunch that won’t fit back in the fridge, or because Aunty Flo is insisting that I try her world-famous pudding.
- I will only eat foods that really nourish me, not “frugs” (food-drugs) like chocolate, chips, ice cream and lollies, that bombard my brain with false pleasure signals, and then leave me feeling lethargic, moody and ‘blah’.
- I will prepare high-nutrient foods for my family’s Christmas lunch and the parties I go to, such as leafy greens, pomegranates, mushrooms, berries, whole grains and legumes, in tasty recipes that reaffirm what I’m forever telling my clients and cooking class participants – that you never have to sacrifice enjoyment of food to get the good health and ideal weight you desire, because wholesome foods taste GREAT! In this way I’ll share my best ever Christmas gift with others, who may still be caught up in the false dichotomy between chasing pleasure and aspiring to excellent health.
- I will only eat as much as I need to feel satisfied, so that I can enjoy every morsel of the delicious, natural food that I’ve prepared, with no stomach-ache or ‘stuffed goose’ feeling afterward.
- I will enjoy every moment of the time I spend with family and friends, in the clear knowledge that it’s my relationships with the people I care about that bring me the greatest joy… there’s simply no food on earth that can compete with that! Furthermore, by remaining in integrity – refusing to bow to social pressure to overeat or eat foods that don’t feel good in my body – I’ll be strengthening my relationship with myself, which is the foundation of my health and happiness.
So, what about you? Will you make the commitment, alongside me, to give yourself the gift of health, vitality and feeling good about yourself this Christmas? Post a comment below to make your pledge!

20/12/2016What a fantastic article!
I am so inspired by your ‘what I really want for Xmas’ line that I’m going to change my email signature to quote you!
I’ve been doing a de-cluttering challenge with a friend where I need to rehome one thing a day for a month. The lack of clutter leaves so much space for creativity as well as relaxation. And less stuff means less time spent looking after clutter.

20/12/2016I take healthy food to parties too! At least I know that there will be one thing I want to eat! I have a friend who sometimes turns up with a big bottle of homemade green smoothie. .. Try to beat that for a healthy dish!

20/12/2016I so agree about the de-cluttering. Clearing your physical space has a powerful knock-on effect on your ‘inner space’.
