A wholefood plant-based diet is far more nutrient-dense than the typical Standard Australian Diet (SAD), but its iodine content can tend toward the low side. Lately I’ve seen a number of plant-based clients whose urinary iodine excretion indicated inadequate intake of this vital trace mineral.

My Super Seaweed Sprinkle is a delicious solution to the iodine problem; just sprinkle a teaspoonful or two of this parmesan-like seasoning over your meals 3-4 times per week, and you’ll get all the iodine you need.

Ingredients:

10 cm strip kombu (kelp), dulse or wakame
1 cup/130 g raw cashews
1/2 cup/25 g savoury yeast flakes (nutritional yeast)

Method:

Cut kombu into small pieces with kitchen scissors. Place it in a food processor or high-powered blender with remaining ingredients and pulse until well-combined but not completely homogenised.

Store in an airtight container in the fridge. Delicious sprinkled on a baked potato or any tomato and bean dish!

Independent health writing is disappearing.

Everything left is sponsored, affiliated, or agenda-driven. The brands funding most health content aren't doing it out of goodwill - they're doing it because it works. Quietly shaping what gets written, what gets recommended, and what gets left out.

That independence has a cost. And it only survives if the people who value it choose to support it.

If you believe honest, uncompromised health writing is worth protecting, this is how you protect it:
